That's exactly what prompted me to look back at MOVE. I believed that if the government bombed someone's house, then they're were protecting the public interest.

There's a chapter in Terrorists or Freedom Fighters (http://www.lanternbooks.com/detail.html?id=159056054x) by Ramona Africa. I read this late last year. Then last week I was speaking to someone about MOVE, and it just clicked.

I read John Africa's Guidelines, I read the accounts of MOVE members who survived, and I looked at the way the state is persecuting these people -- some of whom have been incarcerated for over three decades. It's an abomination!!!

They were out there fighting oppression decades before I ever even realized it existed.

This article brought back memories: I was a kid when this incident happened and basically bought the line that these people were kooks who deserved what they had coming. I didn't even think there was anything odd about a governmenmnt dropping bombs on its own citizens! Revisiting now, the whole gov't response looks insane. Some interesting additional information from Wiki: "MOVE members staged bullhorn-amplified, profanity-laced demonstrations against institutions which they opposed morally, such as zoos (they had strong views on animal rights, seeing them connected to black liberation), and speakers whose views they opposed. MOVE made compost piles of garbage and human waste in their yards, attracting rats and cockroaches. Considering it morally wrong to kill them with pest control, they attracted much hostility from their neighbors. Their actions brought close scrutiny from the Philadelphia police."
