Email to Ringach: I believe you are chopping up primates again…

Correction (January 25, 2010):  The two NIH grants awarded to Dario Ringach during 2009 totaled almost $675,000 — not $1.3 million as I previously reported.  The $368,685 and $308,000 figures represent the aggregates and, therefore, by adding all the numbers together I effectively doubled the actual award money.  I apologize for this error.  But, in all fairness, $675,000 is more than enough to buy a built-in swimming pool in Culver City (and maybe send the youngsters to private school).

Dear Dr. Ringach:

I have a few questions and/or concerns. And, rather than publish misinformation, I want to give you an opportunity to defend yourself — far more than you ever afford your victims.

This email will be published. I invite your denials… sorry, I mean response.

1)  Here’s your chance to prove that you’re “not afraid“  and simply admit what we already know — that you do torture nonhuman primates.

Let’s be clear, it is equally deplorable to experiment on a defenseless mouse or a restrained primate (human or nonhuman). So why are you lying? Although you denied it last year, this information strongly suggested that you were still experimenting on monkeys.

And your most recent equivocation on this issue was prompted when your very own colleague, Paul Browne, confirmed our suspicions:

“Although he [Dario Ringach] did give up working with primates for a while in response to animal rights threats he has since resumed primate work, a good thing too given its importance, and [he] was a founding member of the scientific advocacy group Pro-Test for Science .”

Well, sir, are you suggesting that Paul Browne is a doddering old imbecile who cannot tell the difference between a monkey and a rat?  This was not a mindless slip of the tongue.  The phrase “HE HAS SINCE RESUMED” is an active acknowlegment and we all know it.  Or would you like to argue that Paul Browne is simply delusional? Do you think it’s time for him to retire his bloody white lab coat?

You said “I fully support and defend the use of animals (including primates) in responsible biomedical research.”  You are a vocal Mutilator Rights Activist. And I believe you are chopping up primates again… maybe for $1.3 million?

.

2) According to the database maintained by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, from over 1,100 NIH grants  to UCLA in 2009, you received two awards totaling $675,000. Although their site is updated weekly, “it does not yet include contracts.”  So please feel free to revise this number.  By the way, would you care to share exactly how much pharma paid you last year and exactly for what?  (Jentsch has already admitted that this is part of the arrangement.)

Quantitative Studies of Cortical Visual Processing:  5R01EY012816-10 – 7582240

$ 242,758
$ 125,877
$ 368,635

Theoretical studies of visual cortex:  5R01EY018322-03 – 7665325

$ 200,000
$ 108,000
$ 308,000

This is not a formal FOIA letter, just idle curiosity.  How much is every dead animal worth to you? How many mice, rats, cats, dogs, and monkeys paid with their flesh and blood for… what?  maybe a new built-in swimming pool for the Ringach clan? Do you fill it with blood? How are the kids?

.

3)  At least intellectually, I think I understand how you are able to commit such despicable atrocities.  Like all torture-murderers, you devalue and objectify the victim in order to enjoy the fetishized obscenity.  I think the closest comparison I can draw is to David Parker Ray.  He imprisoned, restrained, terrorized, and, with masterful precision, sadistically tortured and mutilated his victims — exactly like you. Ray referred to his victims as “packages.” You refer to your victims as “research.” The two of you may have been twins separated at birth.  But Ray is dead.

This description of your “work” proves that you are nothing more than a violent terrorist:  “Each monkey is first paralyzed, then used for a single session that lasts up to 120 hours, and finally killed.”

You hide behind welfare laws and bureaucratic technalities, but it doesn’t change the reality:  when the animals fight for their miserable lives, when they writhe in agony and scream in pain, when they clutch their mutilated bodies in a pathetic attempt to find comfort, do you feel anything at all? Do you enjoy their torment?  Do you find their helpless cries exhilarating?  This is not about science, Dr. Ringach.  You are a well-paid merchant of death.

And I can’t wait to see you out of business.

Regards,

Camille A. Marino

  1. John M. Nelson says:

    Very well said Camille!! I too can’t wait for this loser’s response to the atrocities he’s committed.

  2. Thank you, John.

    I hope he does respond, but I doubt it.

    We should interpret his deafening silence, however, as acquiescence and acknowledgment that he is torturing primates again.

    Let’s take Paul Browne’s word for it.

  3. this man is as spineless as he is soulless, craven, perverted and fraudulent. taking his rightful place among history’s most horrific and despicable people, he wormily inserts himself only into scenarios/discussions where he personally gains something (wealth,power,status etc) whatever the cost in screams,terror,indescribable agony. given that he transparently relishes his heinous,demented “work” i’ll wager he doesn’t respond at all.

  4. shawn pawshi says:

    I don’t blame him for not repsonding to emails. Most of them are probably foaming at the mouth rants full of nonsense.

    You’re nutters, the lot of you. You also do NOTHING to actually help the cause of animal rights. You are the raving face of a cause that actually deserves some advancement. Animal testing is necessary, but we can minimize the harm done if maniacs like you weren’t putting the movement in danger by acting like idiots. You don’t post people’s home addresses and phone numbers, it is rude. If some crazy person used that information to target any of these people for vandalism or assault or murder then the animal rights movement LOSES. Until you act rationally and think rationally the animals you champion will not be helped.

  5. Dave says:

    Camille, if “subduing the violent with violence is acceptable and effective” as you say, does that mean I would be justified using violence against you?

  6. Dave,

    If you ever see me inflicting violence upon an innocent, you are not only justified, you have an obligation to stop me.

    Camille

    • Dave says:

      While you haven’t actually used violence against the innocent (as far as I’m aware) you have harassed and threatened his family, who are innocent.

      On another point, I am going to assume that you would allow slight harm to animals if it creates significant benefit to humans. For example, catching a poisonous snake and extracting some venom in order to create an anti-venom, and then releasing the snake. So that means that a small amount violence against an innocent can be justified if it creates a great enough good. I also assume that you would value the life of a human over the life of an animal. If you have the choice of killing a human or a fish you’ll kill the fish. If you accept both of these statements then it just becomes a matter of drawing the line of how much harm is allowable to animals for the benefit of humans. You draw this line in a different place than Dario. I’m not saying I support his actions, but you at least have to understand his view point and acknowledge that he believes that what he is doing is right.
      If you don’t agree with me, then let me know where this train of logic is wrong.

  7. marc says:

    NIH grants don’t go directly into the pockets of the people who receive them. The grants are used to fund the research they do. All of it is accounted for and can be traced.

    I know you hate these people, but stop making the assumption that they do their work because they love causing suffering. I doubt any of them are fetishizing death, masturbating to the tortured screams of animals or living a sadomasochistic disorder. If they simply wanted to cause suffering they could do it in the basement of their home, like a true psychopath. They could be kidnapping people and slaughtering them. Really, there are much easier ways to live out a sick fantasy.

    They do their work to learn about physiology. To develop new techniques, to practice surgery.

    I think the former life you lived in finance has seriously deranged you.

    You need some serious help.

  8. John says:

    Exactly Shawn! To expect anybody to take the time to respond to such a venomous attack is absolutely silly. The email was not an invitation for discussion. It was clear the author wanted only to attack and score points with their juvenile pack. Why waste time responding.

    Dave and Marc, good responses! I see that Camille has “rude”-ly decided to not respond to either of these intelligent responses.

    And of course I did not use my correct email address. I am not going to give my email address to terrorists.
