I – The Exquisite Cruelty of Factory Farming

Cows Left to Suffer
for Land O’ Lakes..
Over the course of several months, PeTA documented the systematic cruelty that dairy cows endure at the Fortune 250 Company, Land O’Lakes in Pennsylvania. Since “food” animals are considered about as sentient as a rock by their capitalist overlords, I’m not quite sure why anyone finds the following circumstances surprising… they’re fairly standard holocaust practices: “the investigation documented deplorable, filthy conditions for cows on the farm, such as pens that were filled with deep excrement (see video and photos), and cows who suffered from ailments and conditions so severe that they collapsed and became “downers” but were not put out of their misery or given veterinary care in a timely manner, if at all.”
Clearly, we can see the abomination that is welfare. This facility was inspected as recently as June 2009; although the report noted infractions, Land O’Lakes concentration camp passed. If a person treated a dog or a cat the way the death industries brutalize their victims, the individual would be fined, jailed and become a pariah (similar to Michael Vick before the HSUS decided to rehabilitate his sadistic image).
Land O’Lakes “inspected” the farm as recently as June 2009 and even noted that there were areas in need of cleaning (including the milking parlor walls!) but approved the facility nonetheless.
Let’s not look at this undercover documentation and delude ourselves that this is an isolated event.

II – More Exquisite Cruelty (the Rhetoric of Hate)

Let’s pick up where Exquisite Cruelty of Facory Farming (posted September 29th) left off.
Unbelievably, I’m chronicling standard industrial farming practices (at least in Canada). The banality of evil is evident in the industry terms describing practices and conditions that any morally intact person would find pathological….
DAIRY COWS:
The intensive, prolonged confinement of dairy cows puts them at risk for arthritis and foot problems.
- Arthritis, as with humans, is the name for a group of conditions involving damage to the joints, the main symptom of which is extreme pain and lameness.
- Foot rot is an extremely painful and highly infectious hoof infection caused by feces borne bacteria. As the name suggests, the foot (specifically the area between the two toes) literally rots away.
